Privacy

Short version: no accounts, no cookies, and your progress stays on your device. If you join the waitlist we keep your email. Visits, price taps and three kinds of usage count are added up as plain totals, without knowing who you are.

What stays on your device

Your Daily 5 answers, streak and progress are saved in this browser's storage. They never leave your device. Clearing this site's data removes them.
The app also saves its own files on your device so it can open without signal. Apart from anonymous visit and usage counts, nothing is sent from your device unless you join the waitlist or tap a price on the Pro pricing page, as described below.
Sessions you log stay on this device too. Download or delete them anytime from Sessions.
Rooms and home games you add stay on this device and are included in "Download all my data" and "Delete all my data".
Importing sessions from a CSV file reads the file on this device only and adds the sessions to this device's data.
Backups and restores stay on this device too: a backup is a file saved to your device, and restoring one reads it here without sending it anywhere.
Your 21+ answer, your limits, any break you start (with when it began) and your "which fits you best" answer are stored on this device too. "Delete all my data" in Limits and your data removes your sessions, rooms and home games, drill history, streak, limits, the lessons you opened, your "Before you go" ticks, that answer and your 21+ answer. A break stays in place until it ends. If you answer "No" to the 21+ question, or you are on a break, you can still download or delete your data from that screen.
If you turn on "Play small sounds" in Settings, that choice is stored on this device too. It is included in "Download all my data", and "Delete all my data" leaves it as it is.
This device also keeps a few small notes: the day it was last counted for the visit totals, the day it last sent a price tap, the source tag of the link it first arrived by, and what it needs to send each usage count once (see Tracking and counts). They are included in "Download all my data" and removed by "Delete all my data".

Tracking and counts

No accounts, no cookies, no ads, and no tracking scripts.
We do count taps on the Pro plans on the pricing page, as a total for each plan per day. A price tap is counted at most once a day per device: only the first Pro plan you tap that day. To know that, your device remembers the day it last sent one; that note stays on your device and is never sent. It is a plain total: no cookie, no IP address and nothing that identifies you. Browsers that send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control send no price taps.
We also count visits. Each time you open a public reading page, such as Cost, Rooms or Basics, we add one to that page's total for the day. The first time each day a device does this, we also add one to a daily number of devices. Only those totals are kept: no cookie, no IP address and nothing that identifies you. Pages with your own sessions, rooms, settings, weekly report or weak-spot practice are never counted. The Daily 5 drill page is counted, but never your answers.
To count each device once a day, your device itself remembers the day it was counted. That note stays on your device and is never sent. Nothing is counted before you answer Yes to the 21+ question, during a break, or while a live session is running. Browsers that send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control are not counted at all.
Some links to the app end with a source tag, such as ?src=reddit, so we can tell which kinds of links bring people here. The tag is one word from a fixed list, such as "reddit" or "friend" (a word not on the list is kept as "other", and no tag as "none"), and links shared from the app carry the tag "friend". It is never the full link, the page you came from or anything you typed. Your device keeps the tag of the first link it opens the app with as a note, and does not change it after that. The tag is sent only with your device's first visit count of a day and when you join the waitlist. We keep only totals: how many devices were counted each day for each tag, and how many waitlist signups came from each tag, with no date. The tag is never stored with your email. Browsers that send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control keep no new tag and always send "none", so their waitlist signups count under "none".
We also count three things about using the app, and nothing else: your first open, your first finished drill set or lesson, and each day you use the app. "First open" is sent once, the first time your device is counted. "First drill or lesson" is sent once, after you finish your first Daily 5 or practice set, or open the first First Night lesson. "Used the app" is sent at most once a day, the first time your device is counted that day, which includes the day of your first open. Each one is only its name, your device's first-open date and the number of days since then. Once, on your first return from day 7 on, it also says on how many of your first seven days you did at least one drill, a number from 0 to 7. It never includes your answers, results, amounts, rooms or any ID. We add each one to a total for that first-open date and day number, so no ID ties any of them to your device. On a day when few people start, a total may describe only a handful of devices.
To send each of these once, your device keeps a few notes: its first-open date, the last day it was counted, and whether the first-drill and week-one counts were sent. Apart from the first-open date, which is part of each count, these notes stay on your device and are never sent. Usage counts are sent only by copies of the app connected to the site's server. Nothing is sent before you answer Yes to the 21+ question, during a break, or while a live session is running. To stop them, turn off "Send anonymous usage counts" in Limits and your data (turning it back on starts them again and keeps your first-open date), or use a browser that sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, which sends none.
"Delete all my data" removes these notes, so this device then starts again as a new first open. It keeps the setting of that switch, so turning counts off is not undone by a delete. "Download all my data" includes them, and restoring a backup never brings them back.
To limit spam, we briefly keep a scrambled code made from your connection and a secret key. We do not keep your address. The code stops being used when the hour ends and is cleared out later.

If you join the waitlist

When you join the waitlist we store your email address, the plan you picked and the date, on Cloudflare's servers. We use your email only to tell you once when the app launches, and the plans people pick, counted together, to help set the price. We never sell or share them.
We keep them until you ask us to delete them.
To have them deleted, email [email protected] and ask. We delete them within 30 days.
If you send us an email, for example with feedback, we receive your email address and your message, and use them only to reply.
